What is OpenRA?
OpenRA is a project that recreates and modernizes the classic Command & Conquer real time strategy games. We have developed a flexible open source game engine (the OpenRA engine) that provides a common platform for rebuilding and reimagining classic 2D and 2.5D RTS games (the OpenRA mods). EA has not endorsed and does not support this product.
Antares auto tune pro v9 0.0. This means that OpenRA is not restricted by the technical limitations of the original games: it includes native support for modern operating systems and screen resolutions (including Windows 10, macOS, and most Linux distros) without relying on emulation or binary hacks, and features integrated online multiplayer.
While we love the classic RTS gameplay, multiplayer game design has evolved significantly since the 1990's. The OpenRA mods include new features and gameplay improvements that bring them into the modern era:
- A choice between “right click” and classic “left click” control schemes
- Overhauled sidebar interfaces with support for hotkeys and production queues
- Improved unit controls with features such as Attack-Move and unit stances
- The “fog of war” that obscures the battlefield outside your units' line of sight
- Other modern RTS features such as capturable tech structures and unit veterancy
- Support for game replays and an observer interface designed for streaming games online
OpenRA is 100% free, and comes bundled with three distinct mods. When you run a mod for the first time the game can automatically download the original game assets, or you can use the original game disks.
Tiberian Dawn
An alliance of nations fights to protect Europe and northern Africa from a mysterious terrorist organization and the valuable but toxic alien mineral, Tiberium, that is slowly spreading over the world.
The Tiberian Dawn mod focuses on fast and fluid play, taking heavy influences from modern RTS games with features like multiple-queue production.
Red Alert
In a world where Hitler was assassinated and the Third Reich never existed, the Soviet Union seeks power over all of Europe. Allied against this Evil Empire, the free world faces a Cold War turned red hot.
The Red Alert mod focuses on strategy, providing a range of units and tactics to conquer the land, sea, and air.
Dune 2000
Three great houses fight for the precious spice melange.
He who controls the spice controls the universe!
Establish a foothold on the desert planet Arrakis, where your biggest threat is the environment.
The Dune 2000 mod currently focuses on providing an experience that is authentic to the original game.
Tiberian Sun
The next major goal for OpenRA is to support the second generation of Command & Conquer games, starting with Tiberian Sun.

The game engine features to support Tiberian Sun are still in development. The mod is not included with the OpenRA installer, but the source code is available in our GitHub repository. Please note that we do not provide support for incomplete development builds.
Custom Mods
OpenRA is designed as a general purpose RTS game engine with strong modding support.
The OpenRA Mod SDK provides tools to develop and release your own projects. Each new OpenRA release brings many improvements and fixes created for, and by, the modding community.
A collection of community-built mods and games can be found on OpenRA's ModDB page.

I love the book and the movie Dune so Dune 2000 was a game that I and my dad were excited for back in the day. The thing is, back then I had no idea that this was just a remake (and I use that term very loosely) of Dune 2 with very little changed to the core game. As a result, while Dune is something many people love, this game is not seen as one of the high points of the series.

The Spice Shall Be Mine
The game does have a story and if you have already played Dune 2 you will know what you are getting into. The story is about three houses/clans. We have House Atreides, House Ordos, and House Harkonnen who have been challenged to prove who is the best. The House that prevails will be handed Dune and with that all the Spice they can handle, Spice being the most valuable commodity in the universe!
I am not saying this story is bad or anything like that. It is just so lackluster in its presentation that it is hard to get excited by. When Dune 2000 was released it was the late 90s and RTS games had started to get a bit of a cinematic flair to them and this game is sorely lacking in that regard. If you love the Dune franchise you may get a tad more out of it.
Trying To Shop At Forever 21
Even at the time, the game was released this was seen as a rather ugly looking game. Okay, that may be a tad harsh, but this is a game that is certainly very basic in terms of the way it looks. I do like how they tried their best to give the many different dessert-themed maps a bit more personality. However, everything else in the game really shows that they took Dune 2 and did very little to make it look like other comparable games of its day.One area that I do really like is the sound design. They did a fantastic job in this regard and the sound is very fitting for this desertplanet.
Playing It Safe
A huge reason why many people feel that Dune 2000 was a bit of a letdown was the core gameplay. This is a real time strategy game, but it is one that plays it very, very safe. I feel that the late 90s were a pivotal time in RTS games with many games making great strides in the genre. What we have here is a game that plays very similar to the game that was released the better part of a decade earlier! That does not make this a bad game as Dune 2 was fun. However, it does make it feel like an “older” game than it really is.
The game has many different unites and you can play as all three houses, but apart from having different looking units, they all feel and play the same. Some are very unbalanced and once you figure out which units can steamroll the enemies, you never feel the need to change up your tactics. My father and I were huge Dune fans when I was a kid and the most fun I had with this was the multiplayer.
I would have to say that I agree with all of those that say Dune 2000 was a disappointing experience. It is far from a bad game; it is just a very average and dare I say “lazy” game. I feel that they should have just made a brand-new game and tried to be braver and bolder with the game design and they could have had something special here. If you are a fan of the Dune universe you might get a tad more enjoyment out of it, especially if you can play with a fellow Dune fan.
